Sanskrit Grammar for Beginners in Devanagari and Roman Letters

Now back in print, F. Max Müller's classic survey of India's ancient literary language first appeared in 1866. It comprises a thorough introduction to the basic features of classical Sanskrit, as codified in Panini's grammar circa 400 B.C. The first chapter introduces the Devanagari alphabet with a comprehensive pronunciation guide. Subsequent sections cover topics including syntax, declension patterns, and verb classes. Throughout the text, all examples appear both in Devanagari script and in roman transliteration.

F. Max Müller was a celebrated nineteenth-century scholar and linguist. Born in Germany, he translated many Sanskrit works dealing with India's ancient language, religion and culture. His publications appear in many editions throughout the world.
