the tale of jemina puddle-duck

Jemima Puddle-duck yearns to hatch her own eggs. (The farmer's wife has a hen do it.) So Jemima sneaks off into the woods and meets a nice "gentleman" that she doesn't realize is really a fox!

She lays her eggs at his home while he plans to eat her with stuffing. Fortunately, Jemima shares her story with the farmer's dog, who realizes right away what the "gentleman" is up to.

The dog and two puppies take care of the fox, but the puppies eat Jemima's eggs before they can be stopped.

Jemima is left with a case of the nerves, but is allowed to try to hatch her next brood.
