Poor Alfie
I spent about 30 minutes reading this book. It is short and somehow I found the story sweet. I think it is about things you could be able to do when you fall in love with someone. But somethings seem not right, for instance, Mr Hoppy causes Mrs Silver to believe in something that is not true. And I think if you wanna win somebody's heart you need to be true. Lies are not the best way to start off a relationship. And if I was a kid, I wouldn't notice that.
As a pet lover, I also didn't like the way Roald Dahl treats animals, they are not objects. However, reading this book for a kid could be a way to bring up this subject and discuss it.
Despite of the happy end that was given to Alfie (Mrs Silver's tortoise), I didn't like it. In a new light, I'm trying to see Alfie like a metaphor for their growing love.
SPOLIER ALERT: Mr Hoppy literally kidnapped Alfie and replaced him with other tortoises. I would be happy if he had changed him back.
