Carol Clark is trapped in a loveless marriage; she lives by routine, calling up young contractors for quotes, just to imagine what it would be like to have a different man inside her house. But despite that, she would never stray.

Gerald, her husband, might not be able to say the same. When Gerald doesn't return home one night, Carol doesn't immediately think anything is wrong. She and Gerald don't talk, and he takes refuge in his business trips the way she takes refuge in home decorating. But then, Carol's life is disrupted by tragedy, and everything changes.
